Dry Chemical (ABC) Residue

The powder from a standard ABC extinguisher contains monoammonium phosphate. If it mixes with moisture in the air, it becomes mildly acidic and highly corrosive.

Never use water to clean this initially. It will turn the powder into a thick paste. Use a HEPA vacuum to capture the dry dust, then wipe the remaining film with a slightly damp cloth mixed with a mild neutralizing solution.

Protecting Electronics

If extinguisher dust enters computers, servers, or home theater equipment, do not turn them on. The dust can short-circuit boards. They must be professionally blown out and cleaned with specialized dielectric solvents.
